Each and every one of our staff and volunteers are huge contributors to the overall success of our programs. Not only do they each make an impact on our organization, they are a positive influence on our participants. The connection that our personnel are able to make with our participants is amazing. As an organization we are very fortunate to have an outstanding group of individuals as part of our team.
Individuals that have gone above and beyond our expectations are profiled, each month. Take a minute to read about some of these extraordinary individuals and help us celebrate their accomplishments and recognize their inspirational abilities.
VOLUNTEER IN PROFILE: Junior Volunteers
You hear it quite often, “It’s tough being a kid, these days”, the pressures of school, friends, etc. and the ever evolving social culture can often be daunting for a youth. But when you find a positive and accepting group of peers, you hold onto them! This year, our Junior Volunteers from Camp Bonaventure have created their own social/volunteering group. They aim to meet once a month, in hopes of continuing to keep in touch with like-minded individuals.
The Junior Volunteers joined us for our annual ‘Supper with Santa’ event in partnership with Shaw Communications, in the month of December. They helped us run stations, interact with our participants and pretty much helped make the event a fun environment. There were many stories and hugs shared with participants, who just couldn’t wait for next summer’s wacky adventures!
We look forward to having you all join us for Friends in Motion on February 25, 2012!!
To Cookie, Slinc, Bonfire, Flare, Wombat, Finch, Kona, Jaguar, Crayon, Blossom, Weasley, Flicker, Juice, Neezer, Gabby, and all our Junior Volunteers….THANK YOU!! We can’t wait to have you all join us again next summer!
LEADER IN PROFILE: Kayla King
Kayla has been involved with Between Friends Club for over 7 years now; her first experience with Between Friends Club was through Youth Central’s Volunteer Corp. program. With a group of a dozen other youth, Kayla volunteered for her first summer with Camp Bonaventure and has spent almost every summer since then with us!
Kayla was eager to get involved, and as soon as she was able to, applied for a leader position. First starting in the Fall session of 2009 and continuing into different roles since then. Kayla, or Sparrow as she’s also known as, has been a strong supporter of Between Friends Club and it’s participants. During this past summer, Kayla was willing to step into a leadership role without hesitation; she has excelled in any role she takes on. During the fall session, although she did not officially lead a program, Kayla was always willing to step in and help out when other program leaders needed coverage or extra support. At the moment, she is volunteering her time on the Friends In Motion committee; working to engage our personnel in the event.
Kayla’s patience and motivation for continued person growth have made her an invaluable asset to Between Friends Club. Kayla has also been awarded a 2011 Lucy Milne Scholarship.
Thank you Kayla for your continued commitment to the organization and it’s participants!
