FROM THE DESK OF THE CEO
The fall has been another busy time for all of us at Between Friends Club. As I write this, the snow is flying outside and I am reminded once again just how quickly time passes. This fall we said goodbye to a few key people associated with the organization. Both Amy Clubb and Joel Houston have moved on to other opportunities, Amy in Vernon and Joel in Vancouver. We will miss them both and wish them all the best.
This fall, the Board of Directors and Senior staff initiated strategic planning. We started by celebrating our accomplishments from the last 3 years and there were many. By the end of the session, we had confirmed our vision for the future and made minor adjustments to our mission statement, which reads Between Friends Club enables people with disabilities to experience a sense of belonging and an enhanced quality of life by providing quality social and recreational opportunities. Our Strategic Priorities are as follows: Fund Development, Membership Growth & Diversity, Partnerships & Collaborations, and Marketing & Communications.
As 2009 comes to a close and given the goals set out in the Strategic Plan, financial concerns continue to swirl around us…similar to the snow outside. We have certainly made some headway this year in expanding our networks and introducing Between Friends Club to new corporate contacts. We still have a very long way to go.
As you know, we did not cut any programs in 2009 and that decision was definitely at a cost. We have borrowed money from our endowment fund and that money must be paid back in the future. Personally, I can’t wait until the recession is behind us.
We need the support of everyone reading this newsletter to raise the funding necessary to ensure that we don’t have to cut programs in 2010. If everyone does just a bit…whatever you can, it will be so helpful.
I have decided to contribute by hosting my 50th birthday party as a fundraiser for Between Friends Club. On December 12th, 3:00 – 8:00 p.m. at The CountryWood in Bragg Creek (36 White Avenue, Bragg Creek) we will be playing shinny hockey followed by a bite to eat and refreshments. Come for both or if you can only make it for one, that is fine. I’m suggesting $1.00 for every year of my life…so a $50.00 donation…of course any amount is appreciated. I hope you can make it. Please RSVP to Heather at (403) 949-8466 or hobray@herizoncoaching.ca by December 5th.
I urge each of you to think of how you can contribute to Between Friends Club to ensure that we are able to continue to provide a sense of belonging and an enhanced quality of life for people with disabilities.
Until next time,
Suzanne Jackett
